CEO WELCOME ADDRESS

Mr. Justice Morkporkpor Yao Amegashie is the Chief Executive of Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority. He graduated from the University of Ghana with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Degree in 1976. Mr. Amegashie is a Barrister at Law and a solicitor at the supreme court of Ghana.

He was called to the bar in 1982. He also holds an MSc Degree in Transportation, (Management & Administration) from the City University of New York, 1988. Mr. Amegashie is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport & Logistics – UK & Ghana and also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

As an accomplished transport expert, Mr. Amegashie spent most of his working life in diverse capacities at the Ministries and other transport service agencies including the following:

  • Director - Ministry of Harbours & Railways (2003 – 2008),
  • Director - Ministry of Roads and Transport (2002-2003),
  • AG. Chief Executive – Driver & Vehicle Licensing Authority (1998 – 2000),
  • Executive Director – National Road Safety Commission (1989-2000),
  • Director – Ministry of Transport & Communication (1994 ),
  • Deputy Director - Ministry of Transport & Communication (1991)
  • Assistant Director I - Ministry of Transport & Communication (1983).

Mr. Amegashie also worked with the Public Services Commission and Office of the Head of the Civil Service between 1977 and 1982 as Assistant Secretary.

Mr. Amegashie’s passion for road safety in the country propelled him to author a number of transport service and safety related books such as Safe Driving – Rules of the Road Explained, Safe Driving Simplified, Safe Driving Simplified (with questions answers), and The Vehicle Owner and the Driver: The Law and Conventions on Road Transport (unpublished manuscript).
