REGISTRATION OF VEHICLES
POLICY
- All vehicles must be physically inspected before registration.
- Registration initiated at a particular office should be completed at the same office.Bulk Issue of numbers does not require transfer of files.
- Change of registration number requires approval of the Chief Executive
- The registration and transfer of an auction car should first be approved by the Director (VIR) or an Officer authorized by him.
- Registration of right hand-drive vehicles is not allowed
- Any vehicle which is imported into the country and used on public road must be registered at the DVLA Office.
- Custom documents in respect of the vehicle must be released by CEPS before DVLA begins registration process
REQUIREMENTS
- A vehicle could be registered by:
(i) owner of the vehicle
(ii) authorized agent
(iii) declaration (from court)
- The Owner / Agent must provide the following:
(i) Customs documents – released by CEPS
(ii) Vehicle for inspection
(iii) Standard Identification Card (i.e. drivers’ license, passport, national identification card or voter ID card )
(iv) Two (2) Passport size photographs of vehicle owner / authorized agent
(iv) Written authorization from owner when an agent is registering the Vehicle on his / her behalf.
(vi) Declaration (in the case of a court order)
(vii) Company stamp on forms (in the case of an agent authorized by a
Company)
PROCEDURE AT ACCRA OFFICE
- Present vehicle documents to CEPS Officials for verification & release
- Present released documents to DVLA office for vehicle inspection
- Provide proof of identity
- Make payments according to prescribed fees and collect required forms
- Fill forms and present for registration number
- Issue registration number & make entries in the register
- Make an inspection of number plates
- Give out duplicate registration copies to owner / agent
PROCEDURE AT OFFICES OUTSIDE ACCRA
- Present vehicle documents to CEPS Officials for verification & release
- Present released documents to DVLA
- Present proof of identity
- Present vehicle for inspection
- Undertake physical inspection
- Fill required forms and present to DVLA for registration number
- Make payments according to prescribed fees
- Issue registration number & make entries in the register
- Inspect Number Plates
- Give out duplicate registration copies to owner/agent
